It was sixty years ago today...

James Bacon reveals in Prolapse 8 (not yet available on efanzines.com, but watch this space) that today represents a significant anniversary in fannish history. On 26th August 1947, a 19-year-old James White called on a 28-year-old Walt Willis at 170 Upper Newtownards Road (a.k.a. Oblique House) to discuss their shared interest in British and American promags. Slant was originally started, the year after, as part of that collection drive. The rest, as they say, is fannish history.
