It's been a fairly fannish weekend, following the news from Anticipation, the Montreal Worldcon. Topped off by reading a tweet from Cheryl Morgan confirming Reno as the winners of the site selection for the 2011 Worldcon. Congratulations to [livejournal.com profile] gerisullivan, [livejournal.com profile] benyalow and everyone else involved in the bid. For all that Reno has been effectively unopposed since the Seattle bid sadly folded earlier this year, this still marks an important milestone in the Renovation project. "This is not the end - this is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning."

Reno in 2011 is a good bet for me to be there; it's a 2-day drive; very do-able. Thanks for the update.

At the moment (despite having a membership to Aussiecon), Reno looks like the next Worldcon I'll get to go to, since it's just over the hill from here. Okay, so the hill in question is about seven thousand feet high at its highest, through the infamous Donner Pass, but still, point is, Reno's close enough to be the next control city (ie, used for signage to indicate direction) on eastbound I-80 from here.

IOW, I should be there, barring major catastrophe.

Peter, any chance we can talk you over to this side of the pond? ;)

At the moment, probably not. It's not either the time or the money (both of which can be sorted, certainly with a two-year lead time), but the prospect of being away from this for up to a week:

Awwww, puppy.

Alright, I guess that's a good enough excuse. ;)
