The laptop won't charge up. I'm hoping it's just that the mains cable is borked. Although on a Mac, even that could be costly. Not sure if PC World will be able to help, but that's the logical first port of call. In the meantime, I still have connectivity via the iPhone - and A's desktop upstairs. But I might be a tad less communnicative than usual for the next few days.

Yuck. I had computer problems last week, when Windows would happily blue-screen within a few minutes of loading up, but a reinstall fixed that pretty well, so I'm assuming Windows just decided to crap all over itself as Windows is occasionally known to do.

Your problem sounds much more serious, and it would be at this point I'd be calling IBM with a sigh, asking for them to ship me a box so I can ship it back to them for them to fix. Either way, it sucks.

Might it be the battery? Does the laptop stay on with the cord plugged in and the battery yanked? Some batteries get to the point that they refuse to charge, so that might be the problem.

Well, the Mac is back. The power lead has a plug. Plugs have fuses. Fuses can be replaced. The charger now works fine. Not sure what I did to blow the fuse, but everything's back to normal now.

Unlike my usual track record in such things, this was actually the first serious thing I tried, rather than the last.

Woo! Glad to hear that it worked out.

Although, that's an interesting solution and not one I would have thought of. (I wouldn't even know how to do that.) Perhaps this is a difference between British and American systems of powering objects?

Hi Peter,

I need your mailing address so that I can send you a fanzine. Can’t seem to find it in VTH.

Do you have any chat transcripts archived from the times that Corflu Zed was running and/or any archived video? I’d love to see anything that might have been preserved. I tried to get to the convention webcam as much as possible but it was tied up much of the time. As much as I enjoyed Corflu Zed – Actual, I still missed being involved with Corflu Zed – Virtural. Didn’t expect that...

Best,

Curt
