Still getting my head around how the distributed nature of #Mastodon impacts how you use it. One thing that’s different from the Big Blue Bird site is that you can’t do a full text search on Mastodon. For the simple reason that there is no full text database to search against – the text is all contained in the individual servers. The servers *do*, however, share their #hashtag data, and this can be searched for across the Federated network.

So being canny with your hashtags is an important part of boosting the visibility of your posts on other servers. As Kelis would have put it, “My #hashtags bring the boys to the yard...”
