Eastercon - The National Science Fiction Convention

Going through the Eastercon 2023 programme to see what panels/events I want to see - nearly everything is available online (well, except the gin tasting and crafting sessions). Especially looking forward to Octothorpe Podcast Live! on Monday.

It should, btw, be fairly obvious why the gin tasting and crafting sessions can’t be online – although I *do* remember one online con at the height of plague times that had an online cheese-tasting session. There was a designated specialist cheese shop who did a cheese pack that you could pay for on pre-order. Those who weren’t organised enough ahead of time – or who were overseas and subject to cheese-export restrictions – were still encouraged to attend, and just bring whatever cheese they had to hand, as members of the “Rebel Cheese Alliance.”

We did a similar online cheese tasting and picked up cheeses close to what they were discussing. The real discovery for us was fig paste -- we had no idea how delicious it is.

I'm going to have to defer to your opinion on this, as the name alone is enough to put me off!

Quite agree, we said "are they sure?" But it was like a jam made of figs. My main exposure to figs has been the Fig Newton cookie, so like the filling in that treat.
