Brad Majors and Janet Weiss use their cellphones to call for help from the AAA, and never need to investigate the light "over at the Frankenstein place."

An inquisitive journalist checks the "Early Life" section of the wikipedia entry on Charles Foster Kane, to confirm that Rosebud was the name of the sledge. (The article on this controversial media mogul, which was semi-protected anyway, has been completely locked down as news of his death breaks.)

It's not just classic movies.

In an early Buffy one of the cool lines is "If the apocalypse comes, beep me"

Then in half a dozen later episodes it's a plot point that they can't contact her from the library, even when she's not underground.
